Classification Points, C. Mathison
Most attendees received copies of handouts - which were taken from the MCCC website - to review and go over the process by which points were credited to members. Carol carefully explained the process. At the end of the explication it was agreed that all the documents would be made accessible through the STCC PA website. It was also suggested that the handouts be e-mailed to the membership. Everyone, once again, was encouraged to check their classification files, review updates, and direct any questions to Myra Smith and to Carol.
New Business
"Statement of Concern" document (see attached)
Both Lynne Quintin and Linda Harrington spoke to the document and noted that it was created by a number of individuals and that there was a list of signatories although it was not attached to the document that was distributed. A serious and multifaceted discussion led to a motion from Nick Camerota and seconded by Linda Harrington:
"Moved, that the STCC PA endorses the "Statement of Concern" presented at
the October 12, 2005 membership meeting."
Passed with 6 Abstentions and 2 Opposed
That led to the question of what to do next.. C. Mathison suggested a delegation from the membership meet with President Rubenzahl. John Gately made the following motion which was seconded by Martha Mazeika:
"Moved, that a delegation of 10 union members, representative of faculty, staff, and departments meet with President Rubenzahl to obtain responses to the points of concern stated in the "Statement of Concern".
Passed with 1 Abstention and 1 Opposed
C. Mathison asked for volunteers to participate and set deadline of Monday Oct. 17 to submit their names. She made it clear that no members of the Executive Committee would be part of the delegation, but that Carol Giaquinto would act as facilitator. Barbara Schaedler noted that it was important for the President to have received a copy of the "Statement" before any meeting took place. Carol Mathison will forward the "Statement" to President Rubenzahl with a letter and request for a date to meet.
Meeting adjourned at 1:35.
Secretary,
Lynn Kleindienst
