Did everyone get a copy of their evaluation (faculty) from their Dean by February 1st?
Nick Camerota encouraged members to go to the STCC PA website www.stccpa.org
for updates and discussion of issues on campus. The old union office will be re-opened in Building 17, 2nd floor sometime soon. Nick also mentioned that the Executive Committee has been invited to various fundraisers and political action events involving local and state leaders. It is important to score relationships with legislative leaders, as economic recovery needs to include higher education partners.
The Annual Legislative Breakfast will be held at STCC on March 28, 2008 at 7:30am.
Political Action: Governor Patrick level funded STCC for fiscal 2008-2009. The Governor would like to increase the employee contribution for health insurance for those earning more than $50,000/year.
New Business:
Doug Buckley reminded members that this is an election year for STCC PA. All local offices are up for re-election. Doug will be working with the nominations and elections committee to bring more information to members.
Eric Brown referred to the September 1, 2008 deadline when STCC will be under contract to pay adjunct faculty full pay based on their step, for a class size of 12 students. Discussion centered on DCE contracts and deadline for signing contracts after ADD/DROP period. Some faculty are concerned that DCE classes are getting cancelled before students who need a particular course have signed up. Classes with less than twelve students are getting cancelled as well. On the other end, the DCE contract can allow for up to forty students in one section.
Discussion from the floor:
1.) “Points”---what do the points equal to? How did classification points come into being?
Rob will make a request to HR to send out updated points.
2. Faculty teaching labs go by hours and not units. A request was made for a meeting with Engineering Technology Department Chairs to discuss further.
Meeting was adjourned at 1:31pm
Respectfully submitted,
Lynn McDonald
Interim Secretary
